It's a really great service from the original travel guides. I used Lonely Planet books when I was a backpacker over 20 years ago.
They were superb then and are superb now. What's nifty about the app-based version is how correctly it uses the smartphones functionality. By downloading the app, and the optional map, you don't use roaming data. It's an interactive, offline guide book. With pictures. Because I travel for business and can often only spare a day for saying the city, I appreciate the summaries of top sites, great places to eat, good bars, as well as the cultural highlights.
Meanwhile, the searchability of the app is very useful. When we were in Prague I searched for vegetarian restaurants, as my wife is vegan, and chanced on some excellent eateries. I'm deeply pleased to discover my old travel companion - my old, faithful travel commission - has had a fitting upgrade to the smartphone era. We're glad we can help you explore the world, tshapshak.
