Even the relatively bit players are stellar here, with Jeffrey Wright and Jennifer Ehle both having moments to shine. The most challenging aspect of watching The Ides of March may very well be that it all feels too frighteningly real, with scene after scene having shades or small references to other recent political happenings.
While Clooney may have slightly more faith in the liberal side of the political spectrum, The Ides of March is a bit of a horror story in the way that it portrays a political system run amok where even the most idealistic candidates and campaign workers succumb to the seductive temptations of power and success. Phedon Papamichael's lensing captures both the larger than life awesomeness of the political process while not losing the intimacy of the real people within the story.
Alexandre Desplat's original score reminds us throughout that this is a thriller, a build-up to a resolution of lasting impact.
The rest of the tech credits are solid throughout. Think about it. A stellar ensemble cast proves that terrific actors can turn a relatively straightforward story into a pretty darn extraordinary film. And in The Candidate , a man with great ideals finds himself selling his soul as the political stakes increase.
The Ides of March Parent Guide. Release date October 7, Stephen Myers' Ryan Gosling excitement for being part of the team behind presidential hopeful Governor Mike Morris George Clooney wanes considerably as he becomes privy to the intricate workings and backroom dealings that are part of the politician's campaign. The amount of violence, sexual content, or language were always concerns for me and my husband as we raised innocent kids with morals.
We constantly fought the peer pressure our kids received to see films that in our opinion were questionable. With the evidence we received at Screen It, our kids couldn't even fight us when we felt a film may have been inappropriate for them to watch.
Thank you, Screen It. Continue to make this helpful service available to everyone, but especially the young parents. Democrats vs Republicans. Honestly surprised we don't have more films about political debates! The reason why I compared this to chess was due to the intelligent methodology that these campaigns used against each other. A glimpse into the inner workings of a political campaign and how simply one mistake could cost a senator the presidential seat.
Acknowledging every move your opponent makes and having to predict what they will do. Most importantly though, this is a film about loyalty and how it is the most important trait to acquire in the world of politics. Believing in an idealism even if the man representing that ideology is not entirely innocent or perfect.
This is George Clooney's baby; he directed, wrote, produced and starred in the film I was mightily impressed. The political sub-genre is a guilty pleasure of mine and really showcases some excellent concise screenplays.
It's no different here, I was captivated from start to end. A talented and likeable cast certainly helped, particularly Ryan Gosling who just keeps on excelling in every role he gets.
Hoffman, Clooney, Giamatti, Tomei Politics is harsh and the screenplay really hones in on campaigns doing anything they can to win. Corruption, persuasion, blackmailing Absolutely fascinating, although slightly hyperbolic. I did find the ending slightly underwhelming and frustrating, probably because it's the ending I didn't want. However, this is utterly enthralling with a tight script and excellent cast.
I would like to live in a world where George Clooney runs for president.
