Why titan has an atmosphere

Saturn and Titan Resources. JPL's lucky peanuts are an unofficial tradition at big mission events. Full Moon Guide: October - November The rover will be delivered to the Moon's surface in late VIPER is the first resource-mapping mission on the surface of another celestial body.

Full Moon Guide: September - October Voyager 2 made its closest approach to Saturn on Aug. The mission revealed a planet so phenomenal scientists had to go back. Full Moon Guide: August - September For the first time, astronomers have uncovered evidence of water vapor in the atmosphere of Jupiter's moon Ganymede.

The next full Moon goes by many names including the Buck Moon. Full Moon Guide: July — August A technique for scanning Mars rocks for microscopic fossils is also being developed to hunt for microbes on Enceladus, Titan, and Europa.

Plus, the 5 percent of Titan's atmosphere made of methane raised another question: It reacts quickly to form organics that would fall to the surface, so how is it replenished?

Those materials, present in the early solar system, could have built Titan as well. And, according to Miller's calculations, this type of organic material in comets, if it were at the core of Titan, could produce gases similar to the moon's atmosphere today. Thermal models of the moon's interior suggest a toasty environment that could replenish or even generate much of Titan's atmosphere.

Titan's atmosphere may be replenished by out-gassing from it's icy surface, crust and perhaps, methane lakes. Seriously, it's a really good question and I'd really like to know the answer for and I wish there would be more Venus studies instead of daydreaming about Mars.

Care to post that as question? Venus is kind of a planet non grata, maybe because it is most like Earth. It is an outlier in most theories. IAU should've defined Venus, not Pluto, to be not a planet. If you like to learn about what is not known about Venus, I recommend Dave Stevenson, here's non-informative lecture of his: youtube.
